Amputees Amplified Founder Larry Gardner

Larry Gardner

Hello and welcome to the newly redesigned website for Amputees Amplified, which has been linking Canadian amputees since 2003. I have put together a collection of Canadian and International links to amputee and disability related web sites to provide quick access to some of the best amputee resources available.

By doing so, I hope you will find some useful amputee information that will help you cope with your amputation.

My name is Larry Gardner, and I have been an above knee amputee since 1974, over 40 years. I lost my left leg above the knee as a result of a motor vehicle accident involving a motorcycle and a drunk driver in a car. A year or two later, I became seriously involved in disabled sports, including competitive swimming and skiing, and recreational sports such as cycling and amputee waterskiing.

I have been operating Amputee.ca since 2003, and over the years I have answered a lot of questions via email from other amputees and their caregivers. I have also been involved in some amputee peer support, helping one amputee overcome his phantom pain issues as well as convincing him that he needed a new prosthetist, which helped him immensely.

The newly redesigned website has been designed to include your input as an amputee. I am hoping create an environment of sharing your own amputee issues. Hence, the new section called Amputees Amplified. I am working on a series of amputee how-to videos to help other AK’s. But I need to generate content from other amputees, as I can only share my particular experiences as a left above knee amputee. If you have anything to share, such as anything pertaining to how you overcome any certain task that you feel may help other amputees, please visit my Facebook page at Amputees Amplified. The best stories and videos will be featured in Amputees Ampliifed section.

I hope that by sharing my experiences and those of other amputees, and by providing a current directory of amputee and disability resources, that I will be of some assistance in dealing with your amputation concerns.
